The Boston Virtual ARTCC - Special Operations group, often abbreviated as BVA Spec Ops, or BVASO, is an immersive and professional group of pilots and operators dedicated to realistic simulation of various civilian, military, and paramilitary operations on the VATSIM Network. BVASO is an authorized VATSIM Special Operations Association, often referred to on the network as a VSOA, and follows all rules and regulations as outlined in the VATSIM Special Operations Policy.
Born out of the original “BVA Military,” the newly launched (2025) BVA Special Operations sets forth a new mission statement to not only provide realistic military training and operations within the ZBW airspace, but also grow and expand to include a number of real-world ZBW aviation-related services and new simulations such as Search & Rescue, Medevac, and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR).
BVA and ZBW is home to a great number of professional real-world aviation units and this newly reformed BVASO is excited to bring simulations such as Boston MedFlight, LifeFlight of Maine, Massachusetts State Police, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Advanced Response Team, and many others. Within this restructuring, members and pilots can expect to see new policy and procedure around simulating these civilian operations alongside our existing Military operations including training, events, and other scenario-based flight operations.
At our core, the BVASO’s primary focus is foremost to be a steward for professional, realistic, and responsible simulation of all the operations under our purview. We expect our members to bring a courteous and collaborative approach to the network’s pilots and air traffic controllers when performing these complicated procedures online.
I'm super excited to welcome you to the official launch of the BVA Special Operations website. We have been working for 4 or 5 months on this rebranded and reinvisioned idea for the BVA Military and a lot of great work has gone into the new website and back end ACARS systems in order to get our organization up and running. Check out all the site has to offer but remember that it is still very much in development. We're happy that we can now at least accept membership requests through the website and also allow pilots to track their flights through the ACARS system to build hours.
We encourage everyone to check out the Flight Operations briefing on Discord on how to operate and work with the website as we continue to add fleet and airframes to the distribution center and build out more enhanced functionality. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out via discord or email and me or another member of the Command Staff will help you get up and running!
Happy Flying!
Sean
